Overview

Education

At Westerly Education Center, we host a wide variety of courses ranging from GED to introductory level to graduate-level rigor. All of Rhode Island’s public institutions of higher education offer classes in Westerly as well as private colleges, professional associations, and private businesses. If you don’t see one you need and would like to suggest it, we’re all ears. We can work with educational providers to see if we can try to host it or create it. Click on the headline to read more details about the courses.

What is GED?

GED stands for General Education Diploma, and it is the equivalent of a high school diploma. Employers and about 99% of colleges will accept a GED certificate in place of a high school diploma.

Enrolled students engage in coursework and take subject tests. The GED test includes four subjects: science, language arts, social studies and math. You can take all four exams at once or one at a time. Westerly Education Center not only hosts GED courses, we offer the tests because we are a Pearson Vue testing site.

The GED providers at Westerly Education Center are Tri-County Community Action Agency and Education Exchange (401-783-0293). Contact either or both to see what works best for you.

When you have completed the coursework, stay at Westerly Education Center and book your test at our testing center. Choose “schedule your test” then click G to display the GED exam. Choose Westerly Education Center and the dates/times that work for you. So easy!

Job and skills training is the portion of corporate and continuing education that provides training and educational opportunities for the workforce. Beyond teaching new staff the specific details of their jobs, many companies train employees in leadership, performance management, lean operations, critical thinking, social interaction, soft skills, and they assist in the obtainment of professional certification.

The University of Rhode Island, Community College of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College and the Rhode Island School of Design Continuing Education all offer courses at our facility. They range from basic computer skills to management training to photography and graphic arts. Some of the courses enable your employees to bolster their basic math or English skills or help them improve their knowledge in specialized subjects, such as learning to speak Spanish or presentation skills. The graduate-level courses bear credits for students earning certifications and degrees.

If you prefer more specialized training, we can help design a proprietary curriculum for your company with our higher education partners. With literally hundreds of expert and experienced instructors on our team, we can relieve your burden of finding subject matters experts to design and teach your course.

Please connect with us to see how we can help you and your employees with training benefits that make the cost and time a worthwhile investment.
